Dear Parent/Guardian:

I hope you and your family had a wonderful and safe summer. The 2010-11 school year brought a beautiful
school, a new principal, and a challenge to raise the school grade. In July, we learned that all the hard work and
efforts resulted in great academic gains. By working together, we were able to raise our school grade from a low
“C” to a high “B”; only six points away from an “A” grade! For the 2011-12 school year, we will continue to
strive for academic excellence, foster S.T.A.R. citizenship, cultivate talents and creativity, and build strong
relationships with families and community members. Our mission is to reach your child’s potential by providing a
safe, enjoyable, challenging, and nurturing environment.

Below is general information about PSOA, the August 19th Meet and Greet, the first week of school, Kindergarten
Staggered Start, PSOA Aftercare, and dress code. Additionally, there is a Transportation Form that needs to be
completed and returned to school at the Meet and Greet or on the first day of school.

MEET and GREET
To kick-off the school year, Plumosa will have a Meet and Greet on August 19, 2011, from 8:00 am to 9:30 am.
This is just a brief time where the parents and their child (no sibling please) can meet their child’s homeroom
teacher, drop off school supplies, and hand-in or complete mandatory forms. Please park in the parent drop-
off/teacher parking lot, enter through the side doors and come to the Media Center. If you are unable to attend,
please send the completed form and supplies with your child on his/her first day of school.

GENERAL INFORMATION
• School begins promptly at 8:00 am and ends at 2:30 pm
o Please ensure that your student arrives to school on time
• Breakfast is FREE to ALL students
• Breakfast begins at 7:30 am; children eating breakfast at school should arrive at 7:30 am
• Students may buy or bring their lunch/Lunch is $1.75
• Free and Reduced Lunch Forms (form mailed home); if you want to apply online, please go to
www.palmbeachschools.org/sfs
• Dress code (enclosed)
• PSOA Aftercare services are from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm

o Family Central vouchers are accepted
Refer to school SDPBC calendar for school, vacation, and half days (PDD)
Half days/PDD – School is from 8:00 am to 11:30 am – Breakfast and lunch will be served

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
To ensure the safety of all students, parents will not be allowed to walk their child to class or to the cafeteria.

A. STUDENTS in GRADES 1 - 5
• Students in grades 1-5 will report to school on August 22, 2011 and will report to the cafeteria

B. KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS
• Staggered Start
o Kindergarten students will only attend ONE of the first three days of school (22nd, 23rd, 24th)
o Please look at the enclosed STAGGERED KINDERGARTEN START form  
• Kindergarten Breakfast
o To have a smooth and happy start of the day for you and your kindergartener, we are inviting you
and your child to come to the Media Center in the morning. Parents, you will be able to give a
final hug and kiss before sending your child off to class. We will have a personal escort waiting in
the wings to take your child to breakfast or to class. Parents can remain in the Media Center to
have some breakfast (sponsored by the PTA) and have any last minute questions answered before
starting out the day.
• All Kindergarten students will report to school on Thursday, August 25th and go directly to the
cafeteria or to class

TRANSPORTATION
To assist the staff with ensuring that your child’s after school transportation is correct, we are asking you to
complete the AFTER SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION FORM (enclosed) and return it on or before the first day of
school.

A. CAR RIDERS
• Parent drop-off and pick-up must occur ONLY in the North parking lot
• Drop-off is from 7:30 am to 8:00 am
• When dropping off your student, please pull through to the very last stop
o This will allow for a safe drop-off and pick-up
• If you arrive after 8:00 am, please park and walk your student to the main office
• Pick-up is from 2:30 pm to 2:45 pm
• If you arrive after 2:45 pm, please come to the main office
o There will be a late fee of $5.00 for every 15 minutes past the 2:45 pick-up time
o A late fee will not be charged for the first week of school
 This will allow for parents to make the necessary arrangements

B. SCHOOL BUS (school bus schedule is enclosed)
The SDPBC transports over 70,000 students a day, so the first few weeks of bus transportation, pick-up and drop-
off, might be delayed until the routes have been routinely traveled. Plumosa School of the Arts has no control over
bus stops, schedules, pick up or drop-off times.

o Students who do not exhibit proper behavior will lose his/her privilege to ride the bus

Espero que usted y su familia hayan tenido un maravilloso verano. El año escolar 2010-11 nos trajo una hermosa
escuela, una nueva directora, y el reto de levantar la nota de la escuela. En julio, hemos recibido la noticia de que
todo el arduo trabajo y esfuerzos resultaron en un gran progreso académico. Trabajando juntos, hemos sido capaces
de subir la nota de la escuela de una “C” baja a una alta “B”; ¡solo a seis puntos de una “A”! En el año escolar
2011-12, nosotros seguiremos esforzándonos para conseguir excelencia académica, fomentar ciudadanía S.T.A.R.,
cultivar el talento y la creatividad, y establecer relaciones fuertes con las familias y los miembros de la comunidad.

Debajo encontraran información general acerca de la escuela PSOA, el Meet and Greet (recepción de bienvenida)
del 19 de agosto, la primera semana de escuela, el comienzo escalonado de Kindergarten, servicio de guardería de
la PSOA, y el código de vestimenta. Además, hay un Formulario Para Transporte que debe ser rellenado y

MEET and GREET (recepción de bienvenida)
Para empezar el año escolar, Plumosa ofrecerá un Meet and Greet el 19 de agosto del 2011, de las 8:00 am a las
9:30 am. Esta será una breve recepción donde los padres y el/la niño/a (sin hermanos/as por favor) podrán conocer
a la maestra, dejar los útiles escolares, y entregar o completar los formularios mandatorios. Por favor estacionen en
el estacionamiento de las maestras, entren por las puertas del costado y vayan al Media Center. Si usted no puede
atender, por favor mándenos los formularios rellenos y los útiles con su niño/a el primer día de escuela.

INFORMACIÓN GENERAL
• La escuela empieza a tiempo a las 8:00 am y termina a las 2:30 pm
o Por favor asegúrese de que su niño/a llegue a tiempo
• El desayuno es GRATIS para TODOS los alumnos

D. ALUMNOS DE KINDERGARTEN

o Los alumnos de Kindergarten solamente se presentaran en UNO de los primeros tres días de
escuela (22, 23, o 24)
• Por favor lea el formulario de COMIENZO ESCALONADO DE KINDERGARTEN que se encuentra
en este paquete
• Desayuno para Kindergarten
o Para poder tener un cómodo y feliz comienzo del día para usted y su niño/a, los invitamos a venir
al Media Center esa mañana. Los padres tendrán la oportunidad de darle a su niño/a un último
abrazo y beso antes de mandar a su niño/a a clase. Tendremos personal esperando para escoltar a
su niño/a al desayuno o al aula. Los padres se quedaran en el Media Center donde habrá desayuno
(provisto por la PTA) y donde podrán hacer preguntas de último momento antes de comenzar el
día.

• Todos los alumnos de Kindergarten se reportaran a la escuela el jueves 25 de agosto e irán
directamente a la cafetería o al aula

TRANSPORTE
Para ayudar al personal asegurarse de que su niño/a utilice el transporte correcto después de la escuela, les pedimos
que completen el FORMULARIO DE TRANSPORTE (esta en el paquete) y lo devuelvan el primer día de escuela
o antes.

C. AUTOMOVILES
• Los padres dejaran y buscaran a sus niños/as SOLAMENTE en el estacionamiento norte
• El horario para dejar alumnos es de 7:30 am a 8:00 am
o Cuando dejen a sus niños/as, por favor siga hasta el último espacio

D. AUTOBUS ESCOLAR (el horario de autobuses escolar es parte de este paquete)
El SDPBC transporta a mes de 70.000 alumnos por día, por lo cual por las primeras semanas de transporte por
autobús, tanto para dejar como para buscar, pueden demorarse hasta que las rutas se hayan utilizado con rutina. La
escuela Plumosa School of the Arts no tiene ningún control sobre las paradas de autobús, y los horarios.
